The Multi-Purpose Mat is made of supple and shock-absorbing foam, covered with elastic jersey. Adapts particularly well to beam and bar usage because of its ability to fit different shapes.
• Covered with soft elastic jersey
• Ideal for beam and bars training
• 38" W x 55" L x 3/4" H
Can the Multi Purpose Mat be used to punch off on the floor or is it just for bars & beam?
Yes! The mat was intended to hang over a bar or beam to provide a layer of landing cushion for learning new skills or repetitive drills. So yes, its original intention is for bars and beams.
However, the mat does lay flat and has a bit of a cushion (similar to a sting mat) but not a bounce. It's not a firm feeling like a panel mat. So you can use it on the floor to either punch off of or land on, but it's not its original purpose. If used on the floor you wouldn't damage the mat and I don't feel like it's a safety concern, but because of the cushion feeling of the mat it would feel similar to punching off of a sting mat.
Typically, on the floor I see athletes land on a sting mat, not punch off of a sting mat.
I'm not sure what type of punch assistance you are looking for, but here are some Tumbl Trak products that I would be more likely to recommend for what you are describing:
